While KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM), Selangor’s leading waste management solutions provider, has excelled in managing illegal domestic dumping, the issue of illegal industrial waste dumping is a trickier adversary. Recognising the need to address this, KDEBWM sought out a seasoned player in the field of industrial waste management. This pivotal decision led to the acquisition of Sitamas Environmental Systems Sdn Bhd in 2022. This is a company with two decades of experience in industrial waste management. Leading the charge of the company, now rebranded as KDEB ICI Sdn Bhd, is its General Manager, Khairil Khalid.
The company previously served 700 clients, but since the acquisition, this number has grown. “KDEB ICI now oversees over 1,000 industrial clients, with 70 percent of them in Selangor and 30 percent throughout Johor. Thanks to our parent company, KDEBWM’s sterling reputation in Selangor’s waste management, more companies prefer our services to irresponsible dumping, especially when they witness our service quality,” said Khairil.
In addition, KDEB ICI has won industrial players over with its flexible and customisable waste solutions while keeping the costs competitive. “Some companies require our trucks during off-hours, like midnight, and we are happy to accommodate them,” stated Khairil. This also extends to the type of bins used, customisable to fit the purpose. In fact, KDEB ICI also offers a diverse range of bins, including RORO (Roll -on Roll-off/Armrolls (RORO)Bins, MGB Bins, and Leach Bins, with over 1,000 in quantity. On top of this, it is also notable that KDEB ICI has been able to dedicate itself to the monthly collection of over 11,000 bins, encompassing 8,000 bins collected in Selangor and 3,800 bins in Johor.
With an increased demand for its services, KDEB ICI has expanded its fleet by adding three new compactors and three state-of-the-art RORO (Roll -on Roll-off/Armrolls (RORO) trucks. Khairil also stated that since the takeover, the company has seen to it to refurbish its acquired assets, ensuring that they are in top-notch condition. “With these efforts since taking over, we are seeing positive results. There have been fewer cases of illegal industrial waste dumping, and we intend to lower it still.”
At the core of KDEB ICI’s success lies its dedicated workforce, comprising 104 staff members across various roles, many of whom stayed on after the acquisition. To ensure operational efficiency, the company operates its own workshops in both Selangor and Johor, responsible for the meticulous maintenance and repair of trucks, as well as the production and repair of bins. These workshops are essential in upholding the highest standards in waste management services.
In a bid to further enhance its commitment to responsible waste management and environmental sustainability, Khairil stated that KDEB ICI is actively pursuing the establishment of recycling facilities in Johor in collaboration with its parent company, KDEBWM. These recycling facilities will play a pivotal role in reducing waste, promoting recycling, and preserving the environment for generations to come.
KDEB ICI and its industrial waste management operations have been a key component of KDEB Waste Management’s mission of promoting a cleaner and healthier living environment in Selangor.
With KDEB ICI Sdn Bhd’s extensive experience, impressive collection rates, and unwavering commitment to responsible waste management, the company is making significant strides in reducing the environmental impact of illegal industrial waste dumping. As they continue to grow and expand their operations, led by the capable Khairil Khalid, KDEB ICI is poised to play an even more pivotal role in safeguarding our environment and promoting sustainable waste management practices.
