KDEBWM, Trash4Cash Opens First Automated Drive-Through Recycling Centre

KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd together with Trash4Cash opened the first automated drive-through recycling center (ATDReC) in Cyberjaya in an effort to make it more convenient for the public to conduct their recycling activities and also earn some income from their discarded items.

With the concept of Do It Yourself the initiative according to managing director of KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd said the centre also helps the community generate money through ‘waste’. Dato’ Ramli Mohd Tahir explained the RM50,000 cost of developing the centre consists of 24 hour operations, unmanned and equipped with closed circuit cameras (CCTV), lights, fans and wi-fi. “Residents who want to use it need to register through the Trash4Cash application, then fill in their name, phone number and Trash4Cash member number on attach with an adhesive tape on their respective waste plastic he added.


Dato’ Ramli Mohd Tahir, said that the center is maintained by Bumi Waste Management Sdn Bhd. and payment for recycled materials will be made online within 48 hours after the process is verified. He explained further that the rate is set according to the current market price, including 10 sen per kilogram of mixed paper, black/white paper (30 sen/kg), old newspapers (35 sen/kg) and wire (RM1/kg). In addition, used cooking oil (RM2.70/kg), aluminum cans (RM2.30/kg), vehicle batteries (50 sen/kg), mixed electronic waste (20 sen/kg), compact discs (40 sen/kg ) and compressor (RM7/unit).


“After the recycling material is collected by the operator, verification will be done by calling, checking and weighing for verification,” said Ramli again.
