THE INAUGURATION CEREMONY OF THE PULAU INDAH POWER PLANT

Pulau Indah, Klang – 30 September 2025
The Inauguration Ceremony of the Pulau Indah Power Plant was successfully held today.

The ceremony was officiated by YAB Datuk Seri Hj Mohd Fadzillah Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, and graced by YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, Dato’ Menteri Besar of Selangor.

Also, present were His Excellency, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Malaysia, Chief Executive Officer Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor (PKNS) and the Chief Executive Officer of Worldwide Holdings Berhad, alongside distinguished guests and industry leaders.

KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) was honoured to be invited to witness this momentous occasion for the Selangor State Government.

The company was represented by YBrs. Tuan Hj Ahmad Rizal Mohd Daud, Senior General Manager of Corporate Services; YBrs. Encik Mohd Idris Mohamed Yusof, General Manager of Operations; and YBrs. Puan Hajah Mahfuzah Muhamad Tarmidi, Assistant General Manager of Corporate Communication.

About Pulau Indah Power Plant (PIPP)
Type & Capacity: A combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant with a capacity of 1,200 MW, located in Pulau Indah, Klang, Selangor. It can supply electricity to meet the growing demand in the Klang Valley region.

• Technology: Equipped with GE Vernova’s 9HA.01 gas turbines, among the most advanced in the world, achieving efficiency above 60% with lower carbon emissions compared to coal or oil plants. It is also designed to potentially operate with a mix of natural gas and hydrogen in the future.
• Developer: A project by Worldwide Holdings Berhad, in partnership with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO).
• Investment & Cost: Built at a cost of about RM3.3 billion, marking one of Selangor’s largest energy infrastructure projects.
• Commercial Operation Date: Achieved COD on 1 March 2025.
• Impact: Strengthens electricity supply security for the Klang Valley (which accounts for ~43% of Peninsular Malaysia’s electricity demand), creates economic value through jobs and long-term operations, and supports Malaysia’s energy transition by providing a cleaner alternative to coal-fired plants.
